February 01, 2012  •  Leave a Comment
Hey there, everyone!  It's a brand new month and with it comes some big changes!

First, the pricing will be updated regarding the wedding packages and everything will be more comprehensive and straightforward.  We are in the process of designing and printing some sample wedding books so that you guys can see how they look and what kind of product you'll be holding in your hands after everything is said and done.  I can't wait till the books are here! (Patience is a virute, though. :)  )

Secondly...(drumroll please!)

SENIOR PORTRAIT SPECIAL!!!

Throughout the month of February, any senior portrait booked (that's reserved and paid for...not just the sessions done in February) will receive an extra $50 in print credits!  That means you can spend it however you like!  So, if you're looking for a gajillion wallet sized photos or simply fifty bucks toward a big canvas style print for the wall in the den, the call will be yours to make!

Keep an eye out for the Monkey Mobile and be sure to let us know (via e-mail, phone, or Facebook) if we can do anything at all to make your current and future experiences with Monkey Suit Photography even better.  Or just drop us a line to let us know you think we're awesome!  Can't wait to hear from, see, and make art with you all!

So this is an interesting story on how I was able to shadow at this wedding. The mother of the groom came to get a massage from me at the place I work. Through conversation I found out that her son was getting married in the following weeks. So curious me asked who the photographer was and she told me Chase Pedigo.
That was awesome news for me because I've shadowed and seconded under him a couple of time and have known him since 2005. Every time I second shoot for him I learn something more. He is awesome to work with and great to talk photography with. So I asked the mother if they would mind if I came along to photograph too with Chase's permission of course! She was delighted to hear I would come do this so I called Chase later that night and got ok'ed to come along. Here's some photos highlighting the evening:

Special thanks to the McCanns and to Chase for letting me come photograph. Also to Chase for being such a wonderful mentor! Here's a link to check out Pedigo Photography.

At the end of November Nathan and I went to a house concert that his good friend Levi Weaver was playing at. If you don't know who he is, you must check out his music. It is wonderful! Seriously. So house concerts are much more intimate than a venue and we ended up meeting a lot of other photographers there. I was geeking out because a majority of them had been in the business for quite some time and these were people I could learn from! While I was there I met the lovely Dianna with Karelle Photography! I let her know that I was interested in shadowing under her and we set up a date. To clarify the photog lingo- shadowing is going to an event and just watching the main photographer do their thing (how they shoot, direct the customer, look for unique angles) and learning while getting experience. It was so nice of her letting me come and see how she works and ask questions along the way. What a beautiful wedding too! I was only able to stay up until the reception but here are a few of my favorite shots I snagged while there.

So thank you Dianna for letting me study under you. I'm looking forward to working with you in the future. And a special thanks to the Bride and Groom letting me tag along too.

New Orleans!

So if you didn't know, I was able to go to Imaging USA this year. I'm sure right know you are wondering just what that is and why it's a big deal. Well it's a huge photography convention held by Professional Photographers of America. (PPA for short, which I am now a member of. Yay! :-] ) It's three days of workshops, photography exhibit and en expo of cool new gadgets and everything relating to photography.
I had a heck of a time getting there and back being that I drove later in the evening and didn't arrive there or back home until one in the morning. So special thanks to those who talked to me on the phone on my way there and back to help me stay awake!
The workshops were fantastic! I fell in love with some of the photographers there that taught the workshops and it was such a motivational and educational experience. So I've had someone ask "Didn't you go to school for photography? What could they teach you there that your schooling didn't?" Well the school program that I was in focused mainly on fine art photography instead of commercial (portraits, weddings, babies, etc.) So these workshops were more about the business of photography. Also some were geared more to the specifics of your cameras. (Canon or Nikon being the two biggest) There weren't really classes at school that focused on that because too many people shoot one or the other and to get a class with just one or the other is probably not an easy task.
Anyways! To sum it up: I had a blast, learned a lot and can't wait to get back to photographing and using what I learned!
A super special thanks to Macon (Nathan's friend) who invited us to the convention and gave us a free pass to get in!
Here's a picture of the dome I passed arriving into New Orleans :) Forgive my reflection of my cd player in the windshield.

Shrader Family Shoot

There must be something about shooting in Old Town Humble. Every time I've had a shoot scheduled there it is super windy and cold! So we shortened up the session but were still able to get some really cute pictures of this little family.

Check out the rest of their photos here. Enjoy!
